2. He emigrated to the United States of America in 1874 and entered Columbia College in 1879, where he became known as an exceptional athlete and scholar.

3. Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin was was a Serbian physicist and physical chemist.

4. Pupin is best known for his numerous patents, including a means of greatly extending the range of long-distance telephone communication by placing loading coils (of wire) at predetermined intervals along the transmitting wire (known as "pupinization").
