Google Doodle for CSIRO Parkes Observatory

CSIRO's Parkes radio telescope, a.k.a. 'The Dish', turns 50 on 31 October and Google celebrates the anniversary with a special Doodle.

1. The Parkes Observatory is a radio telescope observatory, 20 kilometres north of the town of Parkes, New South Wales, Australia. 

2. It was one of several radio antennas used to receive live, televised images of the Apollo 11 moon landing on 20 July 1969.

3. Built 1961 and was fully operational by 1963.

4. Support for the NASA Apollo Missions in late 1960s.

5. More than half of currently known pulsars were discovered by the Parkes Observatory. (via Wikipedia)
